Orthodontic FAQ

Is a broken wire an orthodontic emergency?

When a wire breaks in your braces, this isn't necessarily a dental emergency. If the wire isn't causing any discomfort, you can wait until regular office hours to have it fixed or replaced. However, you should get dental care as soon as you can if the broken wire causes discomfort

What to do if you run out of rubber bands for braces? If you run out of elastics?

Don't wait until your next appointment to get more; stop in to the office right away. Always wash your hands before putting in or taking out elastics. Contact us if you have any questions about elastics, or any other aspect of your treatment.

How often do braces break?

On average, every broken bracket adds an extra month to your time in braces. Breaking one or two brackets isn't a big deal but breaking six or seven is. It's a simple equation: take care of your braces and you won't have to wear them for as long.
